Over the Counter Medications That Are Safe During Pregnancy

Congratulations on your pregnancy! The over the counter medication list is one of the most important pieces of information provided to you. Please feel free to make a lot of copies for your personal use. Take a screenshot of the list with your cell phone so you will always have an approved list with you. Be sure to follow manufacturer-dosing guidelines unless instructed differently by your RHGYNOB physician.

  • Minor Discomfort (headaches, mild cramping, muscle aches)
    • Tylenol (Regular or Extra Strength)
  • Cold Medications/Allergy/Sinus
    • Sudafed/Actifed
    • Tylenol Cold, Sinus, Allergy
    • Robitussin or Dimetapp
    • Cough Drops
    • Nasal Saline Mist Spray
    • Claritin/Claritin D or Zyrtec
    • Benadryl
    • Mucinex
  • Stomach Issues (nausea, vomiting, heartburn, indigestion)
    • Ginger Ale/Lemonade (Canada Dry)
    • Ginger 250 mg 2-4 times a day
    • Unisom (Doxylamine NOT Diphenhydramine)
      • Take 50mg thirty minutes before bedtime, repeat if needed in the a.m.
    • Vitamin B-6 tablets
    • Benadryl
    • Mylanta II or Maalox
    • Pepcid, Prevacid, Nexium, or Zantac
    • Tums
    • Mylicon
  • Bowel Issues (Laxative/Stool Softener/Hemorrhoids, Diarrhea)
